Blackhawk Engineering Inc was established in 1997 by Tommy and Marcia LeMaire.  Tommy and one other inspector were the field personnel.  Marcia took care of all the office activities.  Currently, there are more than fifty employees employed with Blackhawk Engineering Inc.   When Tommy and Marcia made a decision to sell their interests in the business and retire, Jerry and Karen Self purchased the company effective January 1, 2011.






Jerry Self began employment with Marathon Pipe Line LLC in March 1974.  After more than 33 years with the Company, he retired from Marathon on January 1, 2008.  Jerry’s career with Marathon included positions with the Construction and Maintenance crew, as an Operations Coordinator, Equipment Maintenance Supervisor, Area Supervisor, Operations Supervisor and finally Area Manager .  Additionally, although the bulk of his time spent with Marathon was in the Martinsville, IL. Area, he also held positions in Robinson, IL. and Woodhaven, MI.


Following his retirement in 2008, Jerry accepted what was at first a part-time position as an inspector for Blackhawk Engineering in April 2008.  In February of 2009, he also took on the duties as Safety Director.  In March of 2010, Jerry accepted the position of Operations Manager with Blackhawk and remained in that position until such time that the ownership was transferred in 2011.  Jerry now serves Blackhawk as President and his wife Karen holds the position of Vice-President.    


M. Patricia (Patti) Daughhetee serves Blackhawk as Office Manager,  Melissa (Missy) Davidson as Scheduler and Senior Administrative Assistant to the President.
